Yoni Ettinger, aka my awesome husband is a skater boy. He is also holding skate camps for kids to pass off talent to the next skater generation. As part of the camp I started branding the graphics for fliers, stickers and t-shirts….. merchandising :)
My inspiration is again the wonderful Norman Rockwell. Especially his work on the Saturday Evening post, as you would notice with the composition and Typography. I love Rockwell’s Naive all American style, I wanted some innocence in the illustration and sense of whole-hearted goodness. Not to mention some holiday atmosphere, since the camp’s date is near Christmas / Hanuka.

Sticker Graphics, The Logo was Yoni’s idea. The thought behind it is obviously facebook related. Facebook is the meeting ground of all these skater loving kids, whenever a new skate video comes out, or a Trick tutorial by Yoni….facebook is where it all goes down, hence the saying Yoni came up with…”The Like force”, it actually sounds better in Hebrew : כח הלייק

Stickers all stacked up….I like collections of stuff , it’s very soothing.

Work in process, from the photo i took to the final product

Prior to my final wedding invitation design…i had loads and loads of attempts. I would go to bed thinking about it and wake up with new ideas which i would execute right away and then scrap just as fast. This sketch was inspired by Norman Rockwell

I’ve been pretty busy lately. designing…arranging…producing my wedding. It was a pretty small wedding, not a huge production. but I still had some stuff to do. There is nothing harder for a designer/illustrator than designing his or her own invitation. I had a few ideas bouncing around…it drove me crazy, but i was happy with the final result. My guy is a skater, our worlds came together and mixed up, i wanted the invitation to express some of the world clash we felt (it was actually partly his idea:)
The text on the bottom says: 1985 “Oranim” Primary school

As part of the DIY, I had some disposable cameras available for the guests….to just have fun with.

I felt like a little factory.

A quick colorful sketchy drawing for the weekend. I sketched this little guy at work, which is where i do most of my sketching. I find that it just helps me concentrate…I’m not just writing this in case my boss checks out my blog or anything….

This drawing completes what i call “The forest” series: Its wonderful & Deep in the forest. It takes place in a deep dark magical forest. My muse is Inbal, she’s my wonderful super smart and talented cousin. I made this portrait of her while she was pregnant and completed it after she gave birth to baby Noa. So congratulations to Eric and Inbal Zentner who will no doubt be the most awesome parents. Check out Eric’s cool portfolio: www.ezduzit.ca

Bunny…a play thing? maybe. A subject of maternal make belief for the future mom? perhaps. Cuddly fur, to be converted into a fashionable baby pajama? I never said that.

On the top left is the photo reference and after that the not so great, slightly creepy first attempt, which underwent changes and finally was made to resemble Inbal.

Following a fun night out I was sifting through my sketchbook until I came upon a rather busy sketch I made a year ago. After about 5 hours of work I gave birth to a mixed style of digital paint over pen. It’s the first self portrait I drew In a while. I don’t do many. It’s a strange feeling. like walking down the street with a big blinking arrow over my head.

A few sketches from a few sketch books, I try to complete 1 sketch book per year. I mostly use pen and coffee (since i doodle while working, and these are the materials I have at hand). Happy Rosh-Hashana!

This is Reut. She’s got Jamaican Reggae melodies flowing in her blood stream. The Hebrew meaning of her name is friendship. She’s Netanella’s daughter, which makes her my cousin. This is a cropped version of the full size portrait.

I read a bit about Jewel & lady bugs. It is said they are an omen for good fortune, not less importantly, I think they look cool.

4 steps in the process. The original picture of Reut (top left) with her beautiful natural curly hair. The challenge here was mostly about the dreadlocks , which took one hell of a loooong time. The thing about drawing from photographs is how easy and luring it can be to just do a “paint over”. If it’s too easy there’s no fun in it. looking and interpreting a face is much more interesting, and even if I aim to get the proportions right…my influence will always be there. In this case It’s a slightly longer neck, warmer color tones, bigger eyes, etc.
